We may love life in LA, but that doesn’t mean we don’t like to get away too. And LA natives are known for loving the nightlife in the city of sin itself, Las Vegas. You can travel to Las Vegas and find tons of great original drinks and amazing food, but finding good las vegas happy hours is challenge of it’s own. You might not be able to score the same deals you do in happy hour downtown LA, but one must stop happy hour in Las Vegas is the one a the Sugar Factory American Brasserie, located on the outside of the Paris hotel and casino.
The Sugar Factory is part candy shop and part restaurant. This restaurant is open 24 hours per day, hey have an extensive menu full of burgers, salads, pasta dishes, and unique sweet treats like sweet pizza’s and dessert crepes, on top of all of the desserts served up in the candy shop, including cupcakes, macarons, and so much more. The Sugar Factory in Las Vegas also has a chocolate lounge, where you can have chocolate fondue for two.
Just like the food menu, the cocktail menu at The Sugar Factory las vegas is also extensive. Their regular menu has candy and dessert flavored goblets and cocktails. In the chocolate lounge there is a separate menu filled with chocolate cocktails.
These drinks are HUGE, best shared by to or even three people, and they have dry ice in them so they’re served smoking. And no, they won’t change the size for you, unfortunately. Flavors include:
CHOCOLATE LOUNGE DRINKS $14-$16
Cinnamon Toast Crunch*
Root Beer Float
*I’ve tried every cocktail with an asterisk by it; the only ones I cared for were the S’mores, Reeses, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. All three were delicious.
The cocktails are overpriced, as usual, but hey it’s Vegas; if you’re looking to splurge and have some fun, these are completely worth it.
The Sugar Factory American Brasserie in Las Vegas serves up happy hour from 4pm to 7pm every night, and all drinks are buy one get one free. For las vegas, that’s a GREAT deal. So grab a couple of friends and two goblets! The Sugar Factory has three bars, one in the main restaurant, one in the chocolate lounge (which is open from 5pm until later in the night), and one outside the chocolate lounge, in the casino.
If you’re in the Dallas, Texas area, you might want to think about hitting up a yumny restaurant called Mattito’s Tex-Mex. This restaurant has been named one of the top ten bets tequila bars in the United States, as well as Dallas’ best Sunday brunch, Dallas’ best tex-mex, best cocktail (for the Rumba Rita) and has won several people’s choice awards. So it is easy to see that this place doesn’t just have good food, they have great drinks as well, and that’s always a MUST. You can’t say no to a good margarita!
Mattitos Happy Hour
Mattitos is serving up happy hour in Dallas as well as their other texas locations. Mondays through Thursdays from 3pm to 6pm patrons can enjoy a $3.99 margarita.
On Sundays Mattito’s is serving up complimentary champagne all day long, at the Routh Street and Frisco locations.
From 10 to 2pm on Sundays Mattito’s has a brunch, which costs $16.99 per person, or $6.99 for adults.
The food at Mattitos is classic tex mex. Appetizers include quesadillas, nachos, tamales, etc. There are a variety of salads, including their own twists on the taco salad. You can order their award winning fajitas with beef, chicken or shrimp (my favorite!), and there are light fajitas available too. Their dinner plates include a variety of enchiladas and tacos, including beef, chicken and seafood. For the dessert, the classic choices of flan, sopapillas and tres leches are available.
Mattito’s also has catering, so you can bring their yummy tex mex to your next event. They also have a banquet room that holds up to 200 people.
You can try the best tex mex in Dallas at their Dallas location, or one of their other locations in Frisco, Plano, Allen, McKinney, and their newest location, Los Calinas.. In the meantime, check out their menus at www.mattitos.com/
This classic tropical cocktail is one of my favorites, and I’m someone who generally does not like tropical drinks or any drinks with pineapple in it. But this drink has blue curacao to balance it out, and I’ve yet to try a drink with that in it that wasn’t good.
1 oz light rum
2 oz pineapple juice
1 oz Blue Curacao liqueur
1 oz cream of coconut
1 slice pineapple
…or pina colada mix
One of the drinks I sampled while in LA is the Cuzco Smash at Bottega Louie. It was refreshing and, for the most part it just tastes like lime, so nothing about the flavor was particularly impressive. At $12 per drink, and coming from a restaurant that specializes in exotic desserts, I expect a little more flavor from Bottega Louie cocktails! When will we get a macaron cocktail like the ones at Laduree??
2 large containers strawberries
- 1 small package of strawberry jello
- 1 cup water
- 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
- 1 cup vanilla or whipped cream vodka, chilled (or regular vodka plus 1 teaspoon vanilla extract)
- crushed graham crackers
